Rick and Morty Fans Petition for the Show to Be Renewed for Season 4

rick-and-morty-rixty-minutessource: Adult Swim

Things are getting pretty intense in the fandom of the epic sci-fi series Rick and Morty. Who knew the most popular cartoon around right now could have any drama that comes with it? It seems like just yesterday when there was a total freak out over McDonald’s running out of Szechuan sauce, but now there is a bigger issue. Co-creator and writer Dan Harmon revealed on Twitter that Adult Swim has not renewed the series for season 4 yet and that it’s pretty much uncertain on what the future looks like. And thus, the national panic began.

You would think that a show like Rick and Morty that has popularity that is rarely heard of nowadays, which broke Adult Swim’s viewership record, to be the apple of the network’s eye and season 4 ordered right away. In all honestly, I expected the show to be renewed right in the midst of season three’s reign. This just isn’t making sense at all and I understand the outcry and panic of fans. Of course, I don’t quite suspect that Adult Swim would do anything insane like cancel or abandon the series, so let’s not jump so far into the conclusion pot.

Luckily with a power fandom like Rick and Morty’s, fans are taking matter into their own hands. I’m not talking ordering the season and making it themselves, although can you imagine? There has been a petition made with a goal of 6,000 signatures and already over 5,500 fans have signed it. I applaud the Rick and Morty fandom for not taking this situation likely. After all, it is the show that wouldn’t have the success it does without your support (besides the epic and amazing team behind it of course). With fans and creators, teamwork makes the dream work at the end of the day. You can find the petition here: https://www.thepetitionsite.com/940/304/408/renew-rick-and-morty-for-season-4/

Adult Swim, please end this madness and announce the renewal of Rick and Morty for season 4 already. Unless, there’s a clever and creative trick up your sleeves to how exactly you’re going to announce season 4’s renewal or release date. Also, if this is another surprise season premiere then BRAVO, because you have everyone fooled right now.

This Rick and Morty Fan Theory Just Might Be on to Something

rick and mortysource: Adult Swim

Rick and Morty is the sci-fi cartoon that has taken the world by storm. It’s become the most-watched series in the history of Adult Swim and has led to a total pop culture domination. It’s memorable episodes has inspired many fan-crazed memes, outcries, and most of all theories. The are an amazing amount of theories about Rick and Morty out there, and some of them are not totally far-fetched. I mean, anything could be possible with a show surrounds the unordinary life of 14-year-old Morty Smith who goes on extreme adventures to other dimensions with his alcoholic, mad scientist grandfather Rick Sanchez, who has proved himself to be pretty much the smartest man alive. But what if Morty is just as smart as Rick or has the potential to be? That is just what this fan theory states:

Crazy it may sound to some, it’s really not when you add up all of the evidence that we already have. Morty just might not be the awkward, shaky-voiced, character that many know him to be. Rick sees something in Morty and maybe we haven’t been really paying close attention to it. Notice how Rick is always discouraging Morty from going to school, stating how it’s “not a place for smart people”. That quote may sound absurd to most, but think of it as a sign. Rick possibly sees something in Morty that he considers is way beyond an average high school education. When Morty wants to do normal teenage things like asking his crush out or when the subject is on procreation and romance, here comes grandpa Rick, insisting that Morty “break the cycle and focus on science.” Why would Rick be pushing Morty this hard and taking him on his insane adventures if he didn’t think his grandson has the potential to become as genius as he is one day? Not to mention, these adventures are often life-threatening. I don’t think Rick would bother taking Morty along if he thought he couldn’t handle it. If you aren’t convinced by now, what if I said there’s also evidence that ties in with Evil Morty?

evil morty

Evil Morty. He’s a fan favorite that has been the center of many fan theories, and now this one. Friendly reminder that Evil Morty challenged the Council of Ricks and won in a campaign. This could be a hint that a Morty is more capable than you think, including our Morty. Meanwhile in the same episode, Rick states how “a cocky Morty can be a real bad thing for everyone.” When Morty asks “How is that?”, Rick replies with “Uh, I’ll explain when you’re older.” and then just like that. The episode cuts to the scene where Evil Morty is revealed as the mastermind behind the episode’s plot. I don’t think a coincidence is logical at this point. Rick is aware of Morty’s dangerous intelligence, and Evil Morty just might be a symbol of this. It’s only a matter of time before it’s revealed.

A huge thanks to Alex Ducey for this fascinating theory. You can find his original fan theory herehttps://www.reddit.com/r/FanTheories/comments/6wc4yn/rick_and_morty_morty_is_as_smart_as_rick/ I highly suggest you read his full theory. It highlights so much that you probably haven’t thought about before.

The Top 10 Cartoons That Made a Wave in 2017

Whether it was a positive or negative wave of reactions, a wave is a wave. 2017 introduced us to some new faces, season premieres that went viral, and some familiar faces that were revived in animation. Some cartoons seemed to have a extreme cult following, others are just getting started. We’ll also be saying goodbye to one of these shows very soon, and it just hurts my soul to know that. No matter what reaction they had, they are the cartoons that will impact the future of animated television if they haven’t already. These are the top ten cartoons that had everyone talking, ranting, crying, analyzing, or all of the above in 2017.

1) Rick and Morty

rick-and-mortyAdult Swim

Wow. What a year that Rick and Morty has had. If one word could be used to describe 2017 for Rick and Morty, that word would be “viral”. I mean this show really went there. First of all, the season 3 premiere was a total surprise, and ended up making the series Adult Swim’s most watched series ever. History was made my friend. The terms Pickle Rick and Szechuan Sauce had to have been googled at least 10 million times this year. AT LEAST. Rick and Morty pretty much won 2017.

Rick and Morty is the story of insane and sometimes hostile adventures of Morty Smith and his grandfather Rick Sanchez. Sometimes accompanied by the rest of the Smiths mom and dad Jerry & Beth, and daughter Summer, the action-filled journeys to other dimensions never end.

2) Big Mouth

netflix big mouthNetflix

A tale of crazy and embarrassing puberty stories told through animation. Netflix has really done it with this one. As raunchy and vulgar Big Mouth is, it really portrayed puberty and hormones as the monsters that they truly are. No seriously, Big Mouth surrounds a group of pre-teens who are followed by a Hormone Monster and Monstress, who are constantly harassing them and pressuring them to act inappropriately. Puberty is a confusing burden that everyone deals with, so this show can definitely relate to anyone.

3) Hey Arnold

hey-arnold-season-6Nickelodeon

We thought we said goodbye to Hey Arnold in 2004, but the story was not over yet. This year came the adventures of Arnold, Gerald, and the rest of the gang and their quest to help find Arnold’s parents. The P.S. 118 class won a trip to San Lorenzo, where the secrets that were held onto so long in this series finally came to the light. Romances were ignited, closure was given, and Arnold found the answer that he was looking for. Plus, Brainy is the character that you wouldn’t have thought would save the day, but that’s another amazing twist that the movie had. The Jungle Movie was a sort of, sigh of relief, and only the beginning of the revival of classic Nickelodeon shows.

4) OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes

ok_ko_episode_1_stillCartoon Network

Cartoon Network introduced us to another action packed show in 2017. Although it was introduced as a short pilot “Lakewood Plaza Turbo”, at least we got to see it become a full series. OK K.O. follows a character in a futuristic setting who is destined to be the world’s greatest hero. With the constant theme of video games and references to other shows that came before it, I think this series could have a nice future ahead. It has gained a fair amount of praise, followed by a blossoming fandom.

5) Adventure Time

Adventure-TimeCartoon Network

All good adventures come to an end. In 2016, it was confirmed that Adventure Time will not be renewed for anymore seasons and that season 10 will be the last time that we’ll see Finn the dog and Jake the human going on a number of quests with additional characters Princess Bubblegum, BMO, Lumpy Space Princess, and more. I feel like the news brought fans closer together and made them appreciate the show while it was still here. Adventure Time’s final episode will be titled “Come Along With Me” and is set to be released in 2018.

Adventure Time was a passion project for the people on the crew who poured their heart into the art and stories. We tried to put into every episode something genuine and telling from our lives and make a show that was personal to us and that had jokes, too! I’m really happy that it connected with an audience for so long. It’s a special thing, I think.” – Pendleton Ward, Creator

6) South Park

south-park-season-21Comedy Central

South Park just never seems to stop getting good. Their constant pop culture references tied in with a ridiculously funny story line makes almost every episode worth watching. This year was the premiere of season 21 and the writers didn’t hesitate to take a jab at the uprising of electronic personal assistants, the increase of home makeover shows, political outrage, and the country stylings of popular hip hop songs. The remaining episodes touched even more references to humorous and ridiculous political statements such as “fake news”. It was just South Park being South Park and we loved every minute of it.

7) Steven Universe

steven universeCartoon Network

Steven Universe continued to be the top Cartoon Network series and one of the most popular cartoons on television today. It’s never ending adventures for the “Crystal Gems”, or the magic beings – Steven, Pearl, Garnet, and Amethyst who use their powers to protect the earth. The show separates itself from many other cartoons today in sense of representing LGBTQ+ characters, gender fluidity, and tackling abusive relationships.

“In large part it’s based on my experience as a bisexual woman. I think that there are a lot of ways that I — how to I put this? These themes have so much to do with who you are. There is an idea that these are themes that should not be shared with kids but everyone shares stories about love and attraction with kids. So many stories for kids are about love. It really makes a difference to hear stories about how someone like you can be loved. And if you don’t hear those stories, it will change who you are. It’s very important to me that we speak to kids about consent. That we speak to kids about identity. There’s so much I have to say about this. I want to feel like I exist and I want everyone else who wants to feel that way to feel that way too.” – Rebecca Sugar answering what inspired her to include those themes in Steven Universe, San Diego Comic-Con 2016

8) Family Guy

family guyFOX

The first family of adult cartoons started off strong with their season 16 premiere. In Emmy Winning Episode, the Griffins were doing whatever it takes to become an Emmy winning show, even if it means acting as the shows that seem to always win. Shows such as Modern Family, Girls, Breaking Bad, and The Big Bang Theory were parodied. Another major turning point for Family Guy was Brian’s exit. It was such a twist that we didn’t see coming. What was thought to be episode ending resolution turned into a dark reality. This year really proved that Family Guy is still going strong 18 years later.

9) BoJack Horseman

bojack-horsemanNetflix

Netflix has only five animated series on its platform, but this one has stood out the most. BoJack Horseman has won over the hearts of many being the first ever original animated series on Netflix that premiered on August 22, 2014. With their memorable one-liners, it was bound to be a success. It all takes place in the life of a Humanoid horse who was once a 90s sitcom star, but following the cancellation of his show led to him being a washed up actor, hoping to find his place in the modernized industry once again. The show takes on serious issues of mental illness and addiction with a satirical take on events in the real world. Season 4 was released on September 8, 2017 and received a positive reception overall.

10) The Jellies

the-jelliesAdult Swim

This year Tyler the Creator and Lionel Boyce’s show The Jellies really had us impressed. After finding out he’s adopted, even though he’s clearly a human male and his parents and younger sister are jelly fish, 16-year-old Cornell Jelly attempts to find himself a number of ridiculous ways. The Jellies was originally an exclusive on Tyler’s app Golf Media, and main character Cornell was a different race. Tyler explains why the change of race in the best way possible at San Diego Comic-Con:

“How many f–king black cartoon characters is it on TV right now? Name five I’ll give you time. It is none. They cancelled static shock, nobody remember Fillmore, we don’t got sh-t…”

I, for one, absolutely remember Fillmore. Click here to watch the rest of Tyler’s response.

The Top 5 Rick and Morty Episodes So Far

rick-and-morty-top-5source: Adult Swim

Rick and Morty is a show that came and conquered. It’s episodes and quotes have caused an uproar in the social influence which led to the evergrowing memes, merchandise, and publicity. Season 3 alone broke the record for Adult Swim’s most watched series in history. Since season 3 was so huge, it makes you wonder how much of a wave season 4 will make. This show has a number of amazing episodes, but Cartoon Buzz managed to narrow it down to the top 5 episodes that have aired so far. Not to worry for those who haven’t caught up on this series yet, there are no spoilers in this listicle. These episodes were ranked based on ratings, social influence, and how well it helped pushed the show in the right direction. Here are the top 5 Rick and Morty episodes (so far):

1) The Rickshank Rickdemption (S03E01)

rick-and-morty-the-rickshank-rickdemption-szechuan-sauce

Rick creates a plan to escape galactic prison and the earth is being run by the galactic federation that is affecting the Smith family’s life. Yes, this is the “Szechuan sauce episode”, but of course this episode is #1 mainly for its outstanding plot and reference to Stephen King’s novel & film The Shawshank Redemption (1994). This episode premiered on April Fool’s Day as a surprise to many.

2) Pickle Rick (S03E03)

rick-and-morty-pickle-rick

When it comes to social influence, I don’t think there’s any other episode that caused more of a trend than Pickle Rick. The episode surrounds Rick turning himself into a pickle to get out of family therapy. Pickle Rick inspired many merchandising items, memes, and a public appraisal overall.

3) Rixty Minutes (S01E08)

rick-and-morty-rixty-minutes

Rick shows the family an entirely different way of watching television by replacing the normal cable box with a device that allows them to watch shows from different realities. Meanwhile, Jerry, Beth, and Summer are viewed their alternate lives from a pair of Inter-Dimensional Goggles. Rixty Minutes is one of the best episodes of all time due to its unique format that is truly entertaining.

4) Rick Potion #1 (S01E06)

rick-and-morty-rick-potion-number-9

This episode was stunningly tragic. Trying to help Morty win over the girl of his dreams, Rick gives him a love serum, but things soon become chaotic and Morty’s life is at stake. Meanwhile, an insecure Jerry suspects that Beth is messing around when she’s called for a late shift at work. The ending of this episode will for sure cause you to question everything around you.

5) Meeseeks and Destroy (S01E05)

rick-and-morty-meeseeks-and-destroy

In order to solve everyone’s problems to go on an adventure with Morty, Rick introduced the family to the Meeseeks box that contains a blue character with an upbeat introduction “I’m Mr. Meeseeks!”. Jerry’s life is soon put on the line when he gives a task to the Meeseeks that they cannot achieve. Meanwhile, Rick and Morty head to a fantasy land that ends up not being as cheery as it seems. This episode made it to this list due to the realization of that Rick will protect his grandson Morty at all costs. It also introduced us to the memorable character Mr. Meeseeks that is quoted by many.

How ‘Rick and Morty’ Is Dominating Television & Sending Their Fans into a Frenzy

The time has come for a truly outstanding cartoon to really mold a positive impression on the masses. It all started with a draft that was written in only six hours, which then became the TV phenomenon that is shaping pop culture, along with a fandom that is too powerful for words. In the midst of the Szechuan sauce-frenzy, we’re looking into the show that has the fans acting so erratic in the first place.

Created by Justin Roiland & Dan Harmon, Rick and Morty had set forth onto our screens on December 2, 2013, and animated television was never the same.

rick & morty

Picture yourself as a 14-year old going on bizarre and impractical adventures with your erratic grandfather who’s a mad scientist with a drinking habit. Rick and Morty is just as bizarre as it sounds and that’s why it’s loved by so many. Each episode embarks on another insane journey that usually ends in an extremely mindblowing way. You would probably expect an episode to end in a certain way, but then you’re left contemplating the world around you as you know it. Your expectations can be due to the fact that many adult cartoons subsume the exact same rundown. A family that runs into wacky situations or experiences personal issues along the way. Same scenarios can be tedious and will leave a series uninteresting after a while, which can be a drag for show creators and ratings. With Rick and Morty, it’s more than just the usual family adventures & interpersonal relationship troubles that are resolved that the end. Throughout the series, we see Morty’s parents, Beth and Jerry Smith, continuously have marriage troubles, which led to an inevitable split in season 3. It really shows how marvelous continuity can be and how it can mold a quality show while attaching an emotional conflict to each character. The chilling end of the episode, Rick Potion No. 9, will leave you speechless. The scene of Morty’s thousand yard stare deserves awards alone.

Definitely not going to pass up the opportunity to mention the method of improv that is used in this show. In the episode “Rixty Minutes” you can see the improvisation come into play.

Just how much of this natural, improvisational method is used in Rick and Morty? In an interview with io9, Justin Roiland explains how the team behind this show doesn’t use the script exactly how it’s written, but instead as a guideline for their free-flowing creativity.

“When doing the dialogue I have to toss the script aside. Even if I’m sticking to a very specific line of dialogue that is required for a very specific joke set up or punchline, I find that if I allow myself to adjust the wording and let it come out more naturally to how I would actually say it, it helps make the characters feel more real/alive/natural. I also LOVE using out takes as in takes. Our dialogue editor Tommy Meehan also always surprises me with stuff he’ll pick from the record to cut in. He and I are very much in sync on what we find funny.”

“[I improvise on] some episodes more than others. I usually have moments in each episode that weren’t in the script. One big example is the cold open in the pilot. That whole sequence in Rick’s ship was improv based on a scene suggestion from Dan. Other stuff when Rick acts strange or fucks around… that’s usually improv. The scene where he plays with Morty in the Alien Scammer’s ship was improv.”

I guess when it comes to improv vs. the script? Just throw out the script because improv nails it every time.

A groundbreaking show like Rick and Morty was bound to have success, but I’m not sure if success is even the word to describe the impact that this show is having on viewers, the media, corporations & pop culture altogether. Try a phenomenon. Just early this month it was reported that Rick and Morty actually broke Adult Swim’s viewership record. Season 3 was the network’s most-watched comedy show in its history of programming. More than 11 million people alone watched the live-streamed premiere of the season. These are incredible numbers for a show with only three seasons.

The success of the first episode of season 3 alone inspired a hysteria involving a certain fast food chain. I’m talking McDonald’s and their Szechuan sauce. Who knew Rick Sanchez telling Cornvelious Daniel how much he loves a promotional McNuggets sauce from 1998 could led to a literal uproar?

McDonald’s actually ended up gifting the Rick and Morty team a four-pound bottle of this rare sauce, and the hype eventually led up to the franchise re-releasing the sauce for one day only on October 7, 2017. This didn’t sit right with fans due to the fact that the sauce was quickly sold out and it led to several public disturbances and an outcry across social media.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen an animated television show have this much of an influence on the general public. It makes me wonder if the next season of Rick and Morty will be an even bigger deal. There isn’t any news on season 4 at the moment but we’ll keep you posted!
