The original Blue’s Clues series launched in September 1996 to critical praise from educators, parents and preschoolers and ran for six groundbreaking seasons.  Created by Traci Paige Johnson, Todd Kessler and Angela C. Santomero, Blue’s Clues drew acclaim and high ratings for its unique interactivity that helped change the way kids watch television and has remained one of the most popular preschool shows of all time.  The landmark series also raised the bar in preschool television by exploring advanced subject matter such as sign language, geography, physics, emotions and anatomy.

spongebob-squarepants-sky-kids-tile-b6dcbe76source: Nickelodeon

Well this definitely isn’t just Deja Vu, because we have been here before. You might’ve recalled me debunking the same rumor back in 2016. “SpongeBob Squarepants is ending on (insert date here)!!!” followed by a couple of crying emojis.  Let me break it down for you kiddos.

In May 2017, the SpongeBob Squarepants series was announced to be renewed for a 12th season. On April 30, 2015, Viacom announces a third SpongeBob Squarepants movie that will be released on July 31, 2020. SpongeBob Squarepants ending on March 1, 2018? NO WAY. This is a good time to remind everything that it’s always smart to check your facts and pay attention to the news before spreading false information and adding on to the fuel.

Still not convinced? Well the official Instagram page of SpongeBob posted this, and Nickelodeon liked it.

There you go folks! Season 12 is coming your way in 2019. Let’s bury the rumors okay?

Butch Hartman Has Left Nickelodeon After 20 Years

C7LTGMRU0AE3D0Qsource: Butch Hartman

For those of us who grew up watching Nickelodeon and are still devoted fans, we all know that shows such as Fairly OddParents & Danny Phantom reigned supreme at one point in time and we can all thank the man behind the shows as well. Butch Hartman has announced that he has left Nickelodeon after 20 years of animation gold. It is a rather bitter-sweet moment, because while most may be shambles because our childhoods are in a uproar, we should also wish Butch the best of luck in his future endeavors.

His career started with a short cartoon that ran on Fred Seibert’s cartoon incubator show Oh Yeah! Cartoons, which turned into a very successful full series that went on to be one of Nickelodeon’s longest-running series. That cartoon just happens to be Fairly OddParents, and later Butch Hartman went on to create other series on the network such as Danny Phantom, T.U.F.F. Puppy and Bunsen is a Beast. Hartman announced his departure from Nickelodeon via a video from his evergrowing YouTube channel. He has already made it clear that there is no bad blood between him and the network and that his time working there has been fantastic.

“I must tell you, I have had the time of my life at Nickelodeon. I have never been disappointed. I have never been let down. I have been treated extremely well by everybody there…”

Of course he did explain that these type of things do eventually happen in a career, especially in Hollywood. It is totally understandable and I fully respect his decision. What a relief to learn that Butch’s departure wasn’t under bad circumstances. I reached out to Nickelodeon for a statement and here’s what I got:

“We are grateful for all the stories and characters Butch Hartman brought to fans for the past 20 years and wish him the best. He will always be a part of the Nickelodeon family.”

Hartman also announced the decision to end Bunsen is a Beast and his plans to self-release a new project called Elf Detective and several other projects that have not been announced yet. It is unknown right now what will happen with Fairly OddParents, though we already know it and Hartman’s other shows are property of Nickelodeon’s parent company Viacom. It will be interesting to see what direction that will go in. But for now, I think I can speak for many of us when I say: thank you Butch Hartman. Thank you for 20 years of animation gold and memories from our childhood that we can look back at with joy. Once again, good luck to Butch Hartman and we will be covering & supporting your future projects here at Cartoon Buzz.

Review: Nickelodeon Short ‘Best Baddies’ by Max Wittert

nickelodeon best baddiessource: Nickelodeon

Being bad has never looked so good. Back in 2017, Nickelodeon opened a Facebook page, Nickelodeon Animated Shorts, that features fresh new animated shorts. A gold mine of new opportunities is the way I see it. Best Baddies, created by Max Wittert, was debuted on the page on September 14, 2017.

Three witches are on a mission to turn a small town of innocence into chaos and mischief. Girl scout Melody catches their eye when they see her determination to collect badges become almost wicked. Here would’ve been a perfect time for them to chant “One of us! One of us!”. Destined for Melody to join their witch cliche, they disguise as fellow girl scouts with not-so-legit badges. The witches tell Melody that in order to earn their so-called girl scout badges, she must join them in an adventure of turning the town upside down, and the deal is done. Shortly after Melody causes havoc with the witches, they offer her the ultimate final badge, but she must join them for good if she wants to achieve it. Of course the offer was far too tempting and though I was sort of expecting her to back out, Melody officially becomes a baddie.

best baddies nickelodeon

How can a cartoon be so cute and so wicked at the same time? It’s almost as if its making the coolest ironic statement. Adorable characters who just happen to have the intentions to cause trouble? I’m always down for that. Although, I gotta admit that Melody at least started off adorable but ended up just plain terrifying at the end. I expected her transformation look to match with the others but instead she’s a spooky hybrid of a human and a spider. I’m very impressed with this killer animation style though. It’s both unique with a hint of simplicity, and I wouldn’t mind seeing this on TV. I’m catching a cool, dark and sinister vibe.

I guess there is one major theme that plays a big part in Best Baddies: temptation. With Melody’s determination to collect literally every girl scout badge there is, the offer that the witches put on the table was far too tempting for her to resist. Tempting enough to.. kind of.. sell your soul and join the dark side? We’re talking about a girl who cleaned up dirty politics to earn a badge for crying out loud, she means business. Can’t forget to mention that cool song featured in the short: two thumbs up from me!
