Garfield Is Back with a New Limited Comic Series

garfield comic 2018

Our favorite lasagna loving cat is back for another comic series. BOOM! Studios and PAWS Inc are proud to announce GARFIELD: HOMECOMING #1, a new four-issue limited series debuting in June 2018. Feeling mistreated and unappreciated by Jon, Garfield embarks on a journey for a new home and, along the way, meets up with a clown who works in an old-timey travelling circus. Convinced that this is the place for him, Garfield becomes part of the act. Wait. What is that cannon for?

GARFIELD was born on the comics pages on June 19, 1978. The comic strip is centered on the lives of a quick-witted orange cat who loves lasagna, coffee, and his remote control; Jon Arbuckle, his owner; and Odie, a sweet but dumb dog. GARFIELD was introduced to the world in just 41 newspapers and is now the most widely syndicated comic strip ever, appearing in 2100 newspapers. The strip, distributed by Andrews McMeel Syndication, is read by over 220 million people each day and is translated into 42 languages.

The success of the comic strip spawned an entertainment empire including television: Garfield and Friends, The Garfield Show, and a dozen primetime specials; movies: Garfield: The Movie and Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties; hundreds of best-selling books, and thousands of licensed products.

Writer Scott Nickel (Garfield: His 9 Lives) will pair with a different artist in each issue of GARFIELD: HOMECOMING, as Sara Talmadge (Steven Universe) takes us through this wild ride in the first chapter of Garfield’s journey outside of the friendly confines of Jon’s house.

“Putting Garfield on the road in GARFIELD: HOMECOMING allows him to meet a variety of new characters – both friend and foe – and his journey takes him to some interesting and unexpected places,” said writer Scott Nickel. “We hope fans enjoy the ride.”

“I’ve always loved Garfield and getting to take him on an all new adventure with Scott and the team at BOOM! Studios was such a thrill!” said artist Sara Talmadge. “Garfield’s taking on the circus with his usual sass and legendary appetite… But can he be the new star act that the circus needs?  Every page in this issue was a total blast to draw (I mean, what’s more fun than the circus?), and I hope you enjoy it too!”

Studios. “In-between all the crazy adventures and trademark Garfield humor, the heart of this story is one that readers of all ages can relate to – the search to find that place where you fit in and feel like you can truly call your home.”

The Regular Show Returns 25 Years Later in New Comic Book Series

Discover The Future of Mordecai, Rigby & More from BOOM! Studios in June 2018

regular-show-25-years-comicRegular Show: 25 Years Later #1 Main Cover by JK Phan

BOOM! Studios and Cartoon Network are proud to announce REGULAR SHOW: 25 YEARS LATER #1, the first chapter of an all-new six-issue limited comic book series inspired by the Emmy® Award-winning animated series arriving in stores June 2018. After the stunning conclusion to the landmark Regular Show on Cartoon Network in January 2017 featuring an epic battle between Pops and Anti-Pops, fans have been wondering what’s next for Mordecai, Rigby, and the rest of the park –  and now BOOM! Studios has the answer! Journey 25 years into the future with acclaimed writer Christopher Hastings (Deadpool) and the debut of artist Anna Johnstone, as Mordecai and Rigby have a lot to learn about how things never stay the same…

REGULAR SHOW: 25 YEARS LATER #1 features a main cover by JK Phan, with variant covers by Cole Closser (Adventure Time Comics) and Noelle Stevenson (Lumberjanes).

“I love the relative elegance of a Regular Show story. Start with a mundane problem, try to weasel out of it, and then plunge into madness,” said writer Christopher Hastings. “The characters are completely grounded, have real relationships with each other, and then you take them and stick them in the most bonkers, surreal, fantasy/sci-fi/horror/everything impossible scenarios you can think of. It’s a simple combo, but it gives you room for a countless amount of new stories. The tricky part was figuring out how to get the older and MUCH more mature Mordecai and Rigby to jump into that dance again. They’ve traded their insane adventures for family and career. Seeing how these wiser old pals handle the temptations of adventure will be a big part of the fun of this series, not to mention just catching up with all the other characters, seeing what’s changed in their lives, or what’s stayed the same.”

“When I got asked to work on the new Regular Show comic series I was super excited to meet the challenge,” said artist Anna Johnstone. “The show has a great sense of humour and as a fan I can’t wait to see what kinds of weird stuff they get up to ’25 years later’… plus the best part, I get to draw it!”

REGULAR SHOW: 25 YEARS LATER is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ critically acclaimed KaBOOM! imprint, publisher of world-class licensed series such as Steven Universe, Over the Garden Wall, Peanuts, and Garfield, along with original series like Brave Chef Brianna by Sam Sykes and Selina Espiritu, and The Deep by Tom Taylor and James Brouwer.

“We are excited about this chance to tell the next chapter of Regular Show in comic book form at BOOM! Studios,” said Whitey Leopard, Editor, BOOM! Studios. “REGULAR SHOW: 25 YEARS LATER is a must-read for any fan of the show, bringing all the humor, absurdity and irreverence that’s made it so beloved worldwide.”

Print copies of REGULAR SHOW: 25 YEARS LATER #1 will be available for sale in June 2018 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one) or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.

Clueless Is Returning for ‘One Last Summer’ in Fall 2018 Comic

unnamed (6)Clueless: One Last Summer Cover by Natacha Bustos

Los Angeles, CA (February 27, 2018) – Cher, Dionne and Tai return this Fall inCLUELESS: ONE LAST SUMMER from BOOM! Studios.  As a follow up to the 2017 smash hit Clueless: Senior Year, BOOM! has reunited the writing duo of actress, filmmaker, and author Amber Benson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Witches of Echo Park, Death’s Daughter) and author Sarah Kuhn (Heroine Complex, Barbie) with artist Siobhan Keenan (Adventure Time) for another comic book based on Paramount Picture’s hit film.

In CLUELESS: ONE LAST SUMMER, Cher, Dionne and Tai journey out for their final summer vacation before they head off to college and the world of adulthood.  However when life threatens to topple their elaborate plans for the summer to remember, they’ll be challenged to stay true to their best selves amidst the chaos. Luckily they’ve got each other to lean on, because that’s what best friends are for…and because no one stops Cher when she makes up her mind!

“I am so excited to jump back into a second ‘totes excellent’ Clueless collaboration with Sarah  Kuhn and Siobhan Keenan,” said Amber Benson. “I feel like when the three of us work together there is a real synergy that makes Cher, Dionne, and Tai’s world come alive. This next installment of the Clueless comic is all about what happens in the summer before the ladies head off to college – and it will be chock full of the good stuff: friendship, romance, and mystery…with a heavy dose of that ’90s Clueless nostalgia that makes the comic so much fun.”

“I’m so excited to take these girls on some ridiculous summer adventures—as long-time Angelenos, Amber and I are entertaining each other way too much coming up with what, exactly, a Clueless summer vacation looks like and which ’90s songs pair perfectly with every page” said Sarah Kuhn. “And we can’t wait to see what fabulous summer ensembles Siobhan puts the girls in! I am also really loving getting the chance to explore a character who I adore, but hasn’t gotten much of a spotlight yet in the Clueless-verse: Summer, who was played in the movie by the great Nicole Bilderback. Summer’s presence as an amazingly-dressed Asian girl who got to be part of Cher’s cool crowd was always super important to me and I am thrilled to say she has a big part in this book.”

“I’m so ready to draw the Clueless gang again!” said Siobhan Keenan. “With both Amber and Sarah at the writing helm again, I know I’m going to have a great time drawing Cher, Dionne, and Tai’s summer adventures—and I’m so excited to draw and explore new characters, too! Summer vacation is always a memorable time, so it’ll be a dream to dress up everyone in memorable outfits, too.”

CLUELESS: ONE LAST SUMMER, featuring a cover illustrated by Natacha Bustos (Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy), is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ award-winning BOOM! Box imprint, home to groundbreaking original series such asLumberjanes by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Brooklyn Allen, and Noelle Stevenson; Giant Days by John Allison, Lissa Treiman, and Max Sarin; Misfit City by Kiwi Smith, Kurt Lustgarten and Naomi Franquiz; Fence by C.S. Pacat and Johanna The Mad; and Goldie Vance by Hope Larson and Brittney Williams.

Clueless: Senior Year was a charming, witty and heartfelt story—all the same elements that made the film an instant classic,” says Shannon Watters, Editor, BOOM! Studios. “I’m thrilled that we get to reunite the amazing women, both on the page and behind the story, to explore even more stories with Cher, Dionne and Tai at BOOM! Box.”

Print copies of CLUELESS: ONE LAST SUMMER will be available for sale in Fall 2018 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one), book stores or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.

Comic Review: Rocko’s Modern Life #2 – Out January 10

Rocko'sModernLife_002_A_Main

Rocko’s journey to finally snag himself a job may have lead him to making a big fat mistake that could cost him his soul for all eternity. There’s gotta be another comic book store in O-Town because Rocko just doesn’t cut it with any other job. Or maybe he should give the erotic phone line another try? Just a suggestion. Rocko’s Modern Life has always been considered a cult classic in my eyes, and it’s really exciting to know that they creators are interested in keeping the show alive. While we’re waiting for the TV movie reboot Static Cling to drop this year, we can indulge in even more Rocko with the BOOM! Studios comic series that was released in December 2017. Rocko is destined to find another job in order to make ends meet, but is selling over your soul worth getting a job where there’s a football table in the break room? We just might find out how far Rocko is willing to go in Rocko’s Modern Life #2.

Rocko'sModernLife_002_PRESS_3

One thing I love about the Rocko’s Modern Life series overall is the never ending struggle that Rocko has with either trying to find a job, pay his bills on time, or just keep his household and life in order altogether. It’s like this show was sort of made for kids, besides the sly mature jokes on the side, but they were trying to tell us something important all along. Kind of like a warning, or however you will take it. We saw Rocko dealing with the very heavy baggage that life had in store for him. Throughout the show, it was said that Rocko was somewhere in his 20s. BINGO. Though the show was comedic and entertaining through its run, there’s a message to be picked up. Adult life is nowhere near a piece of cake for most people.

Rocko'sModernLife_002_PRESS_4

I admire the team behind this comic’s attempt to recreate Rocko’s journey to get his life in order in this comic series. I also admire that they did not fail to display how his attempts always end up in quite some adventures. They’ve managed to take some common themes from the show and revive them into a new and fresh synopsis. 2018 is pretty much the year that Rocko’s Modern life is rebooted and revived into an even more modern world.

Rocko’s Modern Life #2 was published by KaBOOM!, an imprint of BOOM! Studios targeted for readers of all ages. It was written by Ryan Ferrier and David DeGrand. David DeGrand also did the artwork and illustration along with Ian McGinty. The cover artwork was done by Jorge Monlongo while Miguel Mercado illustrated the subscription cover. The comic book is set to be released on January 10, 2018 at the price of $3.99.

A Sneak Peek at the Newest Rocko’s Modern Life Comic Series

Along with a TV movie coming in 2018, we also get to see Nickelodeon’s classic Wallaby in a new comic book series this coming Wednesday, December 6. ‘Rocko’s Modern Life #1’ is published by BOOM! Studios, who has teamed up with Nickelodeon for the Rugrats comic series as well. The storyline surrounds Rocko facing unemployment, a terrible living situation, and increasingly slim job prospects. Sooner or later he is forced to find out just how far he is willing to go to get a job. There will also be a bonus backup story where Ed Bighead finds himself in the dentist chair of Dr. Hutchison! The comic is written by Ryan Ferrier, of the Regular Show and KC Green. Green is also an artist for the comic series alongside Ian McGinty, who has worked on Adventure Time, Invader Zim, and Bee and Puppycat comics.
